The
Radisson Hotel was boarded up on Tuesday, September 14, 2004
![]() After
reviewing the comments below and talking to Robert on Saturday, We have
decided to close shop. Robert, who had prepared a wonderful gathering,
is very tired and wants to hand everything over to the 2005 planners. I
will act as secretay/treasure for now. Robert will send the 2004 event monies back to each
crew member, along with their new badges. The foods he purchased will
be given to his church. The remaining cash and hats he has will be sent
to me where I will start a new bank account. Robert has not used
personnal money for any Kawishiwi Reunion items. See Robert's house.
We do have quite a bit of money left from dues, infact, did you know that 39% of the 2004 dues came from non-union attendees. I will advise those 26 persons that we can apply their contribution ($650.00) to the 2005 Reunion fund. Those who plan to attend 2005 or 2006 reunions should submit $25 dues for each year. There are three or four persons who have Delta plane tickets that are non-refundable. They are still good if used by March 1, 2005. I plan to use mine for a trip to Arizona. Scheduling Comments |

Janie and I are planning to come to Mobile Oct.

thru 16 reunion or not. Delta will not refund ticket money so we will
still come if okay with you. We would have to rebook by Oct.7 and the
schedule must be used before March 1. |

Re-schedule is good idea but we will
not have vacation time for it. |
| Jim McManus, 9/14 | It is a good idea to try and
re-schedule, depending on the damage Mobile encounters. November might be a more logical time. Election time must not be interrupted. |
| Tom Sparkman, 9/14 |
If you reschedule, I should be
able to be there for Sat meal, regardless of week chosen.

I
would love to see the reunion rescheduled. I have never been to a
reunion and was looking forward to attending.

I
personally do not
think that Mobile will be open for business with in 3-4
weeks. Just from doing clean up here in Wisconsin from tornado
damage it takes longer to put the pieces back in place. I would
hope that any money that Robert had to put down would be
refunded. Maybe something could be worked out for the second
quarter of 2005. That would be April , May, or June. This
would be my suggestion.

I'm
inclined to agree with the November after elections suggestion but also
realize Wayne is I'm sure guite accurate in his assessment that it will
take them a while to put things back in order. At this point it looks
like Ivan has a bulls eye on Mobile. This is disappointing because
Robert had things really setup well. We also should pitch in if Robert has
incurred unrefundable expenses. It shouldn't just fall on him. |
| Rich Nickles, 9/15 | I FEEL ROBERT SHOULD MAKE THE DECISION ON THE REUNION BECAUSE HE IS THE ONE THAT HAS TO SET UP EVERYTHING. YES WE SHOULD PITCH IN IF ROBERT HAS EXPENESE. ALSO, DON`T FORGET NOVEMBER IS THANKSGIVING. |
| Sam Hobbs, 9/16 |
Cancell 2004 reunion and find some one to do 2005
next Sept.
|
| Jim Christian, 9/16 | My
opinion, If Robert is willing, hang on to all the money and lets have
the same plans for next year. I also agree that no host should have to
pay for anything out of their own pocket and if he needs any of the
money we sent he should use it. |
| Noel Dailey, 9/16 | Shipmates,
My wife and myself was in Lousiana on our way to Mobile. We have been
in Hurricanes before and didn't want to be there when Ivan came
calling. We came back to our home in Texas. Now, As for the
re-scheduling, I am for the opinion of Robert Taylor and Vern Bouwman ,
They worked so hard on this for all of us that we should let them do
the Schedualing . |
| John Scholl, 9/17 | I
believe it would only be fair for Robert to refund any money that was
sent in to him except for the dues and any money he has put out that is
not refundable to him. I would think that the money for the
cruise on the paddle wheeler and the USS Alabama would be refunded to
him if he asks because they were all closed and would not have accepted
any tours or passengers on the dates we would have gone. I also
believe that Robert should not have to pay for any
expenses that he can not get reimbersed for. I would not be able
to attend in 4 weeks as I have already used my vacation time I have
allotted for this year. I know that Robert had a great reunion
planned for this year and can attest to the fact that the hotel was A-1
as I spent 1 night there this week, and the rates were a real bargain. |

My wife and I (along with Melvin Tyler) just spent most of the week with Robert in Mobile. We had a great time weathering through Ivan. I can't afford to go back to Mobile this year, but I think Robert should plan on doing it again next year |
