The eye of the hurricane passed right over the two red dots in Gulf Shores where two USS Kawishiwi AO-146 crew members live. They both lost their mail boxes which were sheared off at the ground. For a long time they had to get their mail at a P.O. Box in Post Office.  If the eye had gone over the Bay just to the west, their damage would have been much greater. Lax said his house is up on pilings so the house escaped water and wind damage, the roof remained intact. His ground level storeroom was flooded and they lost a few things. The yard was filled with depris from refrigerators to boats anywere from 2 to 3 feet thick. It too four guys 4 days to clean it up.
