Shipmates, Well, the holidays have come and
gone, and I hope everyone had a good Christmas and my wish for you is
to have a GREAT 2004. Things are looking good for our
reunion. Registration fees are coming in and I feel good about that.
Some came in as early as November. We have several ‘first timers’ to
come on board already! I'm glad of that. The Kawishiwi family can't get
too big! I'm really looking forward to seeing and being with all of you
again. For you ‘boots’ you are in for a wonderful time! You'll be among
some of the finest people you will ever know! Let's face it, the
“Mighty K” turned out some solid citizens! The annual dues are still $25.00,
and those of you that haven’t paid your 2004 dues I would appreciate it
if you could get those to me as soon as you can afford to. I really
could use them. Postage alone is very expensive. I really hate to
mention money, but . . . . . . . . . . . For those of you that are coming,
I’d like you to send me a picture of yourself from the Kawishiwi era.
(Just a snapshot will do) You will get it back after the reunion. Put
your name and year on back where it can be identified. I’m going to
have a board in our hospitality room with all our ‘old’ pictures on it
for everyone to see what we used to look like, and too, to
guess who is who. I think everyone will enjoy that. Also, I also need
the years you served aboard the ‘K’ and your division for your name tag. I have plans for real neat reunion
booklet. It will be sent out to you after the reunion, as it will have
pictures of us during the reunion. Sorry, but I’ll only be able to send
it to those of us who have paid our 2004 dues. The hotel is still requesting that
you make your reservations as soon as you can where they can keep us
together. That number is 1-800-333-3333. (Raddison Admiral Semmes
Hotel) Make sure you do tell them it is for the USS Kawishiwi reunion. These people are really working
with me to make our reunion be as good as possible, and they are a
great group of people. I can’t wait for you to meet them. They are
going to be available for our every need.
By the way, there has been a little misunderstanding. The
registration fee does not include your hotel room. Sorry if
this has caused any problems for anyone. The cut-off date for registration
fees is Again, I am really looking forward
to seeing all of you again. It is a pleasure to be working for you. It
is a lot of work, but I know the result will be worth it all! So, now go mark your calendars and
start making your plans to head south for a real good time. If you
have, any questions just give me a call or e-mail me. If anyone
has lost, the first newsletter let me know (or e-mail Vern) and I will
get one out to you. You really don’t want to miss this reunion! Another
newsletter will be sent to you, probably in June/July to keep you
