SILVER ANCHOR AWARD
Navy retention goals are set each year.  Keeping good Sailors in uniform is a top priority.  For Sailors already past their initial enlistment, or 'second termers', the Navy's goal is higher.  Sailors decided to "Stay Navy!"   For careerists, or those Sailors with about 10-15 years of service.
There's a reason why Sailors are sticking around the Navy these days. While some might believe retention would falter in an area where high operational tempos, varying threat conditions, and excruciatingly hot weather are the norm, others call it job satisfaction with some pretty good benefits, too.

Maintaining a retention statistics at a high level throughout the year, ships are eligible for the coveted Golden Anchor Award, and allows the crew to paint their normally 'haze grey' anchor with shiny gold paint. Runner Up's receive the Silver Anchor Award.
